Ole POTUS might be channeling the wrong Roosevelt

Pretty sure Obama got his Roosevelt speeches mixed yesterday when he delivered his latest speech channeling Teddy Roosevelt yesterday in Kansas. Perhaps his handlers should have looked to the other Roosevelt since today is Dec. 7 and there just might be some historical context to this date and FDR. Just signifies another example of how POTUS' PR team can only be defined as complete hobgoblin horse manure. To think that at one point in time, I like this guy, but then he been hired / listened to a series of complete morons that are ruining his image and this country.

Some quick takeaways from his speech:
  • Punish fraud on Wall Street - ok, I buy that. Personally, I think we go after some of the ones who bet on companies to fail (and had prior knowledge). Like Goldman Sach's dealings with AIG ... that was criminal. Don't penalize capitalism, penalize fraud.
  • Tax the wealthy -- well, the issue here is what is wealthy? Define that and then I might say, cool. But unforutnately, he defines the wealthy as way to many people. I know some of these people, they make money, but have school loans, expensive wives and what not that make them not wealthy.
  • Blame the Republicans for the current fiscal disaster -- ok, no ... its everyone's fault and it starts with leadership. POTUS is the leader and he needs to act like one and take responsibility. We will get out of this faster if he leads, rather than campaigns. Are the Republicans at fault ... sure ... everyone is at fault.
  • New Nationalism -- I'll defer to my historical father on this one, but Roosevelt ran on this platform in 1912 (I think) and he lost.  So ... by judging on what Obama's campaign is channeling, they are focusing on a platform that already lost 110 years ago?  Maybe I read too many history books, but I've been taught to learn from our mistakes, not repeat them.
  • Praise for the new unemployment numbers -- yeah, this is total horse shit. First off, jobs are always created during Nov / Dec b/c of the holiday season (UPS, retailers, etc). Secondly, the latest report stated that ~200K people just stopped looking for jobs (thanks for that Dr. Noisewater).  This doesn't signify change, its called creative interpretation of numbers / graphs. I'll bet you a whole lot of money the numbers go back down in Jan / Feb.
So what did we learn from his speech:  NOTHING.  It's business as ususal in Washington and on POTUS' campaign where everyone wants to blame someone else and tries to steal approaches from the past. It would be so refreshing if a politician would take responsiblity and come up with an original thought.  Nothing wrong with connecting to the past, just make sure you've learned something from it.

Hmm, I wonder what Taft or Harrison used for their campaigns? And for the record ... I'd prefer if my tax dollars went to a clever campaign ... not a crappy one.

Oh and read the comments at the end of the Huffington Post article. I was shocked the way to see even some of POTUS followers are not finding his methods maddening.
