Heroes
Words can't express the sorrow I feel from the latest news ... a co-worker of mine's husband was killed while serving in the Air Force overseas. It's a tragically sad story and there aren't words to describe how I feel for the family of those affected. I just hope that somehow the families can find peace in this tragic situation.
A friend of mine reminded me of an interesting scene in Saving Private Ryan. I thought it was relevant for this post. Please keep the Whitlock family in your prayers (story on AJC.com). These men brought joy to people's lives and were heroes -- we should always think of them in that way.

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours, very sincerely and respectfully, A. Lincoln"

RIP Gary Carter
I was never a Mets or an Expos fan, but as a fan of baseball, I always respected Gary Carter. He was a tough nosed player (Hall of Famer) whom I met once when I was playing in a wooden bat league in upstate New York. I met him in a casino in Niagara Falls and he was one of the more humble, nicest athletes I've ever met.
RIP Gary ... even if you crushed my soul in '86 when you made Bill Buckner (and Calvin Schiraldi pitch poorly -- no one wants to mention that) miss that ground ball.

Probably not going to go over well
Viva Mexico! err ... maybe not. Granted, I'm pretty sure Operation Fast and the Furious was one of the more incompetent operations of all time. I still love how all the people in charge of that operation still have their job. Awesome.
Statistic of the day -- since 9/11, we have lost more than 8,000 soldiers in armed conflict. Since 2006 (when the Mexican Government decided to "get control" of the cartels), 47,000 people have been killed (Source: MSNBC).
Anywhoo, Mexico doesn't want us sending them any more weapons ... and I'm pretty sure the average person doesn't want to send them any. Cool -- note taken and I'll keep all my M4's at home. Let's just call it even and we keep our guns and you keep your violence and people on your side of the river.

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter
Yeah, put this on the list of so awful it will be amazing. Can't wait for this movie or the sequel ... not sure which president will be the werewolf hunter.
Cupid killed in terrorist attack
BREAKING NEWS NOT ON CNN: This just out of the Middle East -- Cupid, while trying to shoot a an unknown individual with a uranium tipped love arrow, was assassinated by Iranian fundamentalist. Cupid has been on the hit list of Iranian fundamentalist for his views of love and ability to commercialize a holiday.
The execution was celebrated across Tehran as Iranians fired their guns wildly into the air (an unknown number of innocent people were killed by falling bullets). The assignation was acknowledged by the Iranian President, let's just call him Balky, as a further incident against the war on the West and his attempts to destabilize democracy and destroy the great Satan.
US State Department spokesperson Jed Eckert stated, "First time and only time I can say this, but, thank you Balky and Iran. We've been looking for a way to save money in the Federal budget and the death of Cupid will help. No we don't have to waste so much money on those sugar heart candies that just taste like crap."
Eckert went on to state that he also has a list of upcoming weddings that he thinks the Iranians could bomb in order to "destabilize the west" or just generally "make his life better".
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
