Olympic Fever

Unfournately, I've been busy at work or else I would have shared some more information / thoughts on the Olympics. Since it is in my second home of London, I thought I'd share some comments from the first 4 days:
  • Opening Ceremonies -- it ranged from amazing, cool to what the hell am I watching to, hey look, the English brought out Sir Paul who plays every major event.  The Swedes and the Danes tied for the most attractive team.
  • NBC -- after 4 days, the highlight has been McEnroe and Seacrest. The rest have been pretty bad and their choices of what to show at night are pretty poor. Even in Australia they showed most of the games on alternate channels - live.  Why not this year? Oh and I get it, I can stream it, but my flat screen TV is a tad nicer than my iPad or laptop.
  • Gymnastics -- yeah, I don't care.
  • Dream Team -- really don't care either ... Forbes put out a list of the top 10 paid athletes and 7 were on the Dream Team.  Would be way cooler if Brett Blizzard or Dante Calabria were raining threes.
  • Swimming -- Phelps looks like he didn't train as much and Lochte is an amazing athlete. Pretty sure he might not be a Rhodes Scholar.
  • Twitter -- the real winner of the Olympics - NBC should learn from Twitter.
  • Beach Volleyball -- love it every year.  I might consider watching it instead of the NFL and certainly more likely to watch than the NBA.
  • Water Polo -- Armegeddenon in water. LOVE ... waiting for someone to drown.
  • China -- they cheat ... seriously.  Check out one of their swimmers - she has a bulge in her shorts and she's not a dude -- well maybe. At least she didn't get gender tested like the South African. Imagine showing up to work and they ask you to prove you sexuality. Awesome -- I'd sue ... a lot.
  • London -- the Olympics have really made me miss my second home.  It really is a magical place and I hope I win the lottery soon so I can have a flat in London to visit the one weekend in the Summer when the sun is out.
I'll be sure to share much much more as the week progresses and more importantly, as some other cool events kick off.

Cause I'm leaving, on a jet plane

Sometime in the near future, Retired Sorority Girl and I are headed to the big island that time forgot. Unforutnately, we aren't going to some secluded warm island (aka, Cuba - that trip is next week), but instead we are heading across the pond to enjoy a some time in Jolly Ole except this time we are venturing outside a trip to the Big Smoke, and enjoying a wedding in Manchester and Sheffield.

The best part about this trip will be managing Retired Sorority Girls' exceptions about the London she's seen in What A Girl Wants, Friends and in Love Actually. We've spent the last couple of days discussing what all to do in London and I'm pretty sure its going to be a tourist trip on steroids -- actually, change steroids to crack.

Watching her plan cracks me up b/c she has the optimism that we will be able to do everything from all the museums, Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar, Ride a Red Bus, Goto Harrods ... to Stonehenge, Oxford, Cambridge and Windsor Castle. I'm up for doing whatever, I'm just not as optimistic as she is about what we will get to do. And most importantly, she hasn't factored in the Pub / Pint factor ... that tends to slow down the trip a tad.

Regardless, it will be amazing to be back in my second home and seeing some wonderful people. Everyone should have a second home, even if it is expensive to visit and you only get to see it once (maybe twice) a year.  I can't explain enough how excited I am about my quick trip to Jolly Ole ... it's generally the most peaceful two weeks of the year.

Anyone seen my DeLorean?

Today has been so much fun, I actually goggled DeLorean / Time Machine to see if there was a way to go back or fast forward time.  Pretty much, the sky is falling ... and I say that because a giant tree limb hit my car on the way into work this morning as well. Yeah, that will wake you up.

Lucky for me, no damage but I've learned that if things are going to happen, you should bet on it will happen to me ... unless that "happen" is winning the lottery. Needless to say I've donated so much to the lottery / education system, I'm pretty sure there will be an elementary school named after me soon.

So that made me think, if I had a DeLorian, what personal things would I go back and change (aside from today and the current goat rodeo):
  1. This morning ... and pretty much all of this week. It's just been a giant festering terd from minute one except for the weather. I'm loving the 60 degree mornings!

  2. Throwing Greg Mulucknik (Sophomore Year, Catcher for Duke University) an 0-2 Fastball, belt high that he hit so hard, it broke the sound barrier and landed about 520 feet away. I still have nightmares about that pitch.

  3. Owning a Pink Bicycle when I was a teenager -- just a poor, poor decision

  4. Car accidents 1, 2 and 3 which all resulted in concussions:  I'd like to go back and just say, "Hey Jed, just get a cab home. You know these women don't know how to drive and being the passenger is only going to cause you broken bones." Granted, accident 3 did have a man driving but for the sake of argument, let's call him a woman.

  5. Mumford and Sons and Arrested Development in concert:  I saw both of these bands live and I want my time back.  Also, I guess you can add the movies Kansas City and What Dreams May Come -- two movies I saw in the theater (both were dates) that I wish to never see again.

  6. 2001 and 2002 - Two years filled with poor decisions and I'd like to go back and re-arrange a few events.

  7. Not investing in Google ... I had a chance, but I think I bought some furniture or a TV or something.

  8. The night I bet $2,000 on Black (roulette) because Wesley Snipes said, "always bet on black".  Guess what ... always bet on Red

  9. The comment I made as I walked off the baseball field my senior year in college, "Yeah, I'm done with running. You won't see me running unless I"m being chased by the cops."  Fast foward 40 pounds and I think I should have never stopped running.

  10. My first three months in London:  I wish I would have had a better attitude about it all ... would have been a much better time and good chance I would still be there.  Not that being back is bad, but when you compare Atlanta and London ... enough said, you can't compare Atlanta and London other than they are both cities and both have people.

  11. Sundance Film Festival:  I worked Five of them and only have a handful of drunken actor stories ... I should have more. Oh and yes, Jeremey Piven is a clown.

  12. Taking Red Pants and WWJCD to Felini's for lunch and then backing my six week old Explorer into a concert pole resulting in $7,000 worth of damage.

These are just a few and I'm sure there are thousands more but I found it a fun exercise to attempt to sway a pretty lousy morning.

Come and get your beatin' rioters ...

If your on the side of the rioters, then you should delete this web address. Love this video of the London police putting a serious beat down on some hoodies on their bikes. Any chance these guys can play inside linebacker for UGA?
